Nowadays, we all used energy for different aspects. We rely on energy without it we cannot survive. Somehow do we know what energy we are using? There are two main categories of energy, that is fossil fuels and renewable energy. Could fossil fuels replace renewable energy in the future? The answer is “yes”.
According to the information given by the European Commission, over 90% of energy consumption in the UK is fossils fuels, only 8.2% is renewable energy. The percentage of using fossil fuels are much more than that of renewable energy. There are 2 main factors leading this result.
Firstly, fossil fuels are very effective in production. They can produce energy in a short period of time. It only takes several hours to complete the reactions. We can also use a few fuels to produce a large amount of energy, like nucleus power. While using renewable energy is needed several conditions. For example, in solar power, we need to consider the weather is suitable or not to obtain energy. If there is no sun, then we cannot gain any energy the sun.
Secondly, fossil fuels are cheap. The cost of fossil fuels is low, which compares to renewable energy. The maintenance and extraction cost of fossil fuel is low. While renewable energy needs to have a high maintenance cost. Renewable energy is required high techniques of materials to keep a constant energy supply. Like solar energy, it required several solar panels in order to obtain a large amount of sunlight. The cost of solar panels is high and expensive. They need to replace a new panel after every month. This will lead an increased cost in energy supply.
Some people may think that renewable energy is much better than fossil fuels due to no greenhouse gases has emitted. In fact, the production of materials will emit greenhouse gases and also allow continuous global warming. It also harmful to the environment.
As a result, fossil fuels are important to our lives. No one can take the place of fossil fuels and they cannot be replaced.
